Restaurant Name:
Anupana definition in Hindi means ' Water Dwellers'
Restaurant Concept and Idenity:
The Anupana Restaurant is a modern Indian restaurant situated near the Canary Wharf.
The client came to Studio D2 with a vague concept; he had an idea that he wanted it to be an upmarket Modern Indian restaurant, but no solid details.
As well as being situated near the Canary Wharf the restaurant was two minutes away from London’s renown Billings Gate Fish market. This was an attraction in itself. We decided to use this element as a marketing tool, developing the concept further into a specialised Indian fish restaurant.

Interior Entrance/ Bar Area
The entrance leads straight to the bar, on the left wall of the entrance; a tinted green glass panel with recessed columns, recessed by 300mm, in these recessed columns tinted mirrored panels are placed, and on them are lotus motifs taken from the Indian lotus flower.
A perpendicular light is shone through the mirror panels below, and when it hits the resin filled lotus patterns, the lotus shines looking like it is floating.
To give a simpler explanation there is a light halo around the lotus motifs.
Before: Dining Area After: Dinig Area

We recommended a theatrical feel for the dining area with a semi opened plan kitchen, this was to build curiosity for the customers mean while showing only some parts of the activity which happend in the kitchen but not taking all the focus of the dining area.
Bar Area Seating

The light fixtures were design bespoke by Studio D2, it is m,ade from bamboo poles fitted on to a round metal bracket with one central light fixture. This was designed to help illuminate the existing LED spot lights.
The bar was designed bespoke by Studio D2, bamboo poles were placed in front of LED light panels to create a bar facia. The idea was to have the light coming through the gaps the bamboo left between them.
Digital Artwork

Proposed idea of using Mosaic squares to build up the art work for the back wall. Glass panels are placed infront of the mosaic artwork. Glass panels are etched with patterns of clouds and fishes, this is to blend into the background arkwork.
